A Reader Falls in Love with Serafina, Connor, and the Discerning God’s Best Finale
Vision of My Heart just released, and it closes out the Discerning God’s Best series. Instead of writing about my experience with this book, I want to hand the microphone to a reader whose words captured Serafina and Connor’s story better than I could summarize it myself. LuAnna, known as DevotedToHope on BookBub, wrote a review so full of heart that I asked her permission to share it here in full.
Serafina and Connor Steal the Heart
Serafina’s story touched me in such a tender way. I even loved her name. Serafina is exactly right for her, beautiful and memorable. Sadly, her blindness is part of her life, but it never becomes all that she is. Heidi Gray McGill lets us know Serafina through the way she listens, ponders, remembers, trusts, questions, and keeps moving forward. There is so much dignity in the way she is written, and I loved how naturally the details of her daily life helped me experience the world with her.
Connor brought such warmth, humor, and strength to the story. His steadiness with Serafina made me love him quickly, and the way he could make me laugh only added to it. The hymn moments made me smile and laugh out loud so many times, and those lighter touches gave their relationship such a natural tenderness. I loved watching the trust between them grow without Serafina ever feeling reduced to someone who needed rescuing.

The Ruth and Naomi Thread and a Faith That Feels Real
The Ruth and Naomi thread was another detail and perspective I really appreciated. It added a beautiful layer of loyalty, belonging, and choosing to keep walking with someone even when the road ahead is uncertain. That fit so well with everything Serafina and Connor were facing.
The Christian faith in Vision of My Heart is one of the reasons this story meant so much to me. Trusting God, surrendering plans, believing that His purposes are still good, and continuing to follow Him when the future cannot be clearly seen are present throughout the story. The title itself became more meaningful to me as I read. There is physical sight, and then there is the deeper kind of seeing that comes through faith, trust, and knowing Who is leading.
A Fitting Finale to the Discerning God’s Best Series
There were emotions here that felt very real to me. Fear, hope, uncertainty, tenderness, grief over what has been lost, and the courage it takes to keep living fully when life looks nothing like what you once imagined. Serafina’s journey never felt flattened into an inspirational lesson. She and Connor felt like real people, and that made the emotional and spiritual parts of this story matter even more.
By the end, I was deeply attached to Serafina and Connor. I loved the way their story honored both tenderness and strength, and I loved how consistently it pointed to God and His faithfulness. Vision of My Heart was a beautiful ending to the wonderful Discerning God’s Best series, and one of those stories I was not ready to finish.
This series has clearly found a place in my heart because I already want to go back and read every book again.

I want to say thank you to LuAnna for these precious words and for how well she described Serafina and Connor’s story. But I also want other readers to know they do not have to match this level of detail to make a difference.
