Picture the moment. You are standing before God. He looks at you and asks one question. Why should I let you into my heaven?
What would you say?
Maybe you would list the good things like the years you spent raising your kids right, the times you showed up for a friend in crisis, or the Sundays you sat in a pew. None of that is the answer God is looking for.
“There is no reason to let me into your heaven other than Jesus.”
What Scripture Says
Scripture settles the matter plainly. Paul wrote, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, ESV), and that includes every person who has ever lived, you and me both, with no exceptions written in.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23, ESV). Sin earns a payment. God offers a gift instead.
“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, ESV). He did not wait for you to clean yourself up first. He came for you exactly as you were.
Paul also wrote that “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, ESV). He saves you, even though you cannot earn it and do not deserve it..
The Answer He Desires
So when God asks why He should let you into heaven, here is the answer He desires:
There is no reason to let me into heaven other than Jesus. Through His death on the cross, Jesus forgave me of my sins and takes away the punishment of death and hell. Through my faith and trust in Jesus, He saved me. Jesus is my Lord and Savior.
That is the only answer that has ever worked, not your résumé, not your regrets, only Jesus.
Pastor James Merritt put it this way. “You cannot go where God doesn’t love you. You cannot do anything that will make Him quit loving you. His love never wears out, never ends, and never fails. It’s unlimited and unconditional.”
If you have never told God that you trust Jesus to save you, you can do that right now, right where you are. He is not waiting for you to get ready. He already came for you.
What would you say if He asked you today?
“There is no reason to let me into your heaven other than Jesus.”
