Help Restore Joy This Christmas

A Heartfelt Request from One Author to Another

Many of you know I write stories rooted in hope — hope that shows up in real life, even when circumstances look bleak. Today, I want to introduce you to someone who embodies that resilience every single day.

My friend Amy Bovaird and I share more than a love for storytelling. She was the first person I ever met who truly understood what I was facing with my eyesight — because she has the same condition: retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that steals vision.

She has encouraged me in ways only someone walking the same journey could.

When progressive vision loss threatens Amy Bovaird’s independence, a community can help restore hope.

Amy’s Current Challenge

Since July of this year, Amy’s vision has declined dramatically. She has been unable to work, and even writing — the thing that brings her joy and blesses others — has become increasingly difficult because of the need for specialized technology.

But there is hope.

Amy has trained with a trial pair of assistive smart glasses, and they made a remarkable difference — increasing her ability to navigate independently and continue the work she feels called to do.

The only hurdle remaining: the cost.

Her friend and secretary of The West County Lion’s Club in PA, Nadene, has created a fundraiser to help cover what insurance does not. Amy is doing everything she can on her end — selling books, hosting a bake sale, exploring grants and interest-free options — but she needs a little more help.

How You Can Make a Difference

During this season of giving, many of us look for opportunities to directly bless someone we know is deserving — someone who is already working hard to overcome obstacles.

Amy is one of those people.

If you feel led, here are three meaningful ways you can help:

1️⃣ Donate to support her assistive device

2️⃣ Purchase one of her books

Every purchase not only supports her financially, but also boosts visibility on Amazon — helping more readers discover her books.

3️⃣ Share this post
Your share may connect Amy with someone eager to help. There is a share button at the bottom of this page.

  1. Thank you for being a dedicated friend to Amy, as she considers you a precious Mentor, as well as a talented author. We are also assisting Amy in her financial drive for funds by making & donating crafts for her to sell to reach the steep goal to obtain the Specialized Smart Glasses. Every little donation helps, wether monetary, or even simply volunteering to drive her to vendor occassions, it can add up to a wonderful opportunity to assist in this endeavor. We truly hope the best for both you and Amy. Thank you.
