I don’t know what your past holds.
Maybe it’s full of broken dreams, missed opportunities, or choices you wish you could undo. Maybe it’s marked by silence and years where prayers went unanswered and hope grew dim. Or maybe, like me, you’ve had seasons that felt so consumed by pain, shame, or regret that it seemed like there was nothing left to salvage.
But God says otherwise.
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.” Joel 2:25 (KJV)
The God Who Restores
In Joel 2:25, the Lord promises to restore what the locusts have eaten. Not just repair. Not just cover up. Restore.
That word holds power. It speaks of God’s deep love and ability to redeem the time we think we’ve wasted. The relationships that broke. The years lost to fear, addiction, illness, or heartbreak. Even the consequences of our own sin. God doesn’t ignore them, but neither does He abandon us in them. When we surrender what’s broken, He restores in ways we never expected.
I wrote A Place to Belong with this verse echoing in my heart. Josephine, the heroine, is a woman who believes she’s used up all her second chances. Pregnant and alone, she arrives in a snowy Ozark town with no plans, no welcome, and no hope.
But grace meets her anyway.
Nothing Is Wasted with Him
Through the kindness of a quiet war veteran, a weathered old miner, and a community built on redemption, Josephine discovers that the years she thought wasted were only the beginning of her real story.
Maybe you need that reminder today too.
God doesn’t toss us aside when we feel ruined. He gathers the pieces and, with care, turns them into something beautiful. If you’re in a season of waiting or regret, let this be a whisper of hope:
Your story isn’t over. And with God, nothing is wasted.
