Scoops of Comfort: Finding God’s Refreshing Presence

Discovering Biblical Comfort in Life’s Sweet and Sour Moments.

In 2 Corinthians 1, Paul dives deep into the comfort game, dropping the word “comfort” ten times in just a few verses (3-7). It’s like a comfort extravaganza! Speaking of comfort, have you ever had that one go-to comfort food that hits the spot like nothing else? Like that pint of Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey or Cherry Garcia ice cream? None of that fat-free, sugar-free stuff—I’m talking about the full-fat, full-sugar, fully indulgent pint that’s like a party in your mouth!*

But let’s not stop at the freezer aisle. Paul isn’t just talking about indulging our taste buds here. He’s talking about God-level comfort—the kind that’s richer than the creamiest ice cream and sweeter than the ripest cherry. Just like David found deep satisfaction in God (Psalm 63), Paul reminds us that God uses the people around us to scoop out comfort during our toughest times.

So, as you dig into your pint of heavenly comfort, think about this: how are you letting God’s comfort swirl into your life? And more importantly, how are you passing that scoop of comfort on to others? Whether through a pint of ice cream or a heartfelt chat, let God’s comfort melt through you and sweeten the lives of those around you. And next time that freezer door tempts remember to thank God for His comforting presence—ice cream mustache and all.

What is your comfort food? I always enjoy connecting with readers. Please leave a comment below.

*For those of you following my no-sugar journey…never fear…I’ve stayed well away from the temptation of ice cream!
