I’ve learned something precious through this journey we call “life”: sight isn’t always about what we can see with our eyes. My legal blindness has taught me to rely on the unseen. That’s where faith shines brightest. I desire to remain steady in the storms of life by keeping my “eyes” focused on Him.
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat faces a terrifying crisis. Armies are closing in. Fear is real. But instead of rushing to battle or giving in to panic, he turns to the Lord and says something that stops me every time:
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” (v. 12)
Those words resonate deeply. Because while I may not rely on physical sight the way others do, I understand what it means to keep my eyes fixed on the Lord. Not my circumstances. Not my limitations. Not even the outcome. Just Him.
Here’s what God has taught me through this passage and through my storms:
1. Seek God First.
Jehoshaphat called the people to seek the Lord before anything else. There’s strength in stopping long enough to say, “God, I need You.” Sometimes the clearest vision comes when we’re looking up, not around.
2. Stand Together.
God didn’t design us to walk through difficulty alone. The people gathered, fasted, and prayed as one. That kind of unity brings comfort, the kind that doesn’t require perfect answers, just a shared trust in the One who does.
3. Worship Anyway.
Before the victory ever came, they praised. That’s powerful. Worship isn’t just a response to deliverance, it’s often the pathway to peace. And when we worship, something shifts: our fear makes room for faith.
4. Trust God’s Promises.
When vision fails—literally or figuratively—His Word doesn’t. It’s a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). And even when we can’t see the next step, we can trust the One who sees it all.
I may not see with 20/20 vision, but I know where to fix my focus. And that’s on the One who never wavers. If you’re in a season of uncertainty, may I gently remind you—just as I remind myself—we may not know what to do, but our eyes can still be on Him.
And that’s more than enough.
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” – 2 Chronicles 20:12b (ESV)
