Why I Write Christian Fiction: A Journey of Faith, Discovery, and Hope

Exploring how each story becomes a personal conversation with God

When I write, I’m not standing on a platform proclaiming all the answers. I’m walking beside you, asking the same questions, searching the same Scriptures, and marveling at the same grace.

Some authors write what they know. I tend to write what I want to know—what I long to understand about God, faith, and the mysterious way He weaves purpose through every twist and turn of life. My stories become a journey of discovery, not just for my characters, but for me and hopefully for you, too.

I believe readers don’t want to be told what to believe; they want to experience truth unfolding. That’s why I invite you to see God’s hand at work from a bird’s-eye view and watch as He brings beauty out of brokenness and redemption out of ruin. Together, we follow the trail where faith leads, not always sure where it will take us, but confident the destination will be good—because He is.

Faith in Fiction: Where My Stories Begin

Each book in my Discerning God’s Best series began as fiction but became a deeply personal conversation with God. As my characters grew, so did I. Every page has been a place of wrestling, reflection, and renewal—a path where story and Spirit intertwine.

Desire of My Heart

In Desire of My Heart, I walked with Rachel through tremendous loss. Her story doesn’t mirror mine exactly, yet walking that parallel path helped me “see” (both spiritually and literally) the grace of perspective. When sight fades, hope remains. God reminded me that He is not finished working, even in the dark.

With All My Heart

In With All My Heart, God and I wrestled through questions of belonging and identity. Writing Singing Bird’s story became an act of courage—learning to embrace who God created me to be, even when the world doesn’t understand. Through her, I discovered the beauty of grace that bridges cultures, heals wounds, and welcomes us as we are.

Matters of the Heart

By the time I reached Matters of the Heart, I had plenty of “heart work” to do. I poured my own stubborn independence into Katie—a woman determined to succeed on her own terms—and watched as God gently transformed her. Through her, I learned again that our strength isn’t enough; but His always is.

Healing of the Heart

Healing of the Heart became deeply personal. I understood Teddy’s struggle of never quite measuring up to what society expects, of feeling cornered by circumstances beyond control. But as I wrote, I witnessed the same truth play out in her life and mine: God shows up right on time. Always.

Written on My Heart

In Written on My Heart, I walked with Gabe—a man who wanted desperately to do right by God yet struggled to hear His voice above his own plans. His journey reminded me how easy it is to confuse our desires with God’s direction, and how grace patiently leads us back to His path.

Keeper of My Heart

And now Keeper of My Heart has taken me in all kinds of directions—emotionally, spiritually, and creatively. It’s a reminder that God’s lessons rarely come wrapped neatly. Sometimes they arrive in the form of tension, challenge, or change. Yet even there, He is faithful to reveal Himself in unexpected ways.

The Invitation

Every book I write is a story of discovery for my characters, my readers, and for me. I don’t pretend to have all the answers. But I know the One who does. My prayer is that as you read, you’ll sense that same gentle invitation: to walk beside me on this trail of faith, to look for God’s hand from a bird’s-eye view, and to see that His best is always worth discerning.
